Life insurance company names new CFO

Woman takes lead role as predecessor departs for rival firm

There is a new chief financial officer at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company – following a departure to a rival firm.

Elizabeth Ward will take the role as of June 01 following the departure of Michael Rollings who has joined the Vanguard Group. Ms Ward will move from working as both the company’s chief actuary and chief enterprise risk officer. Indeed she has been associated with the company since 2001 having then joined Babson Capital Management, one of the company’s subsidiaries.

In announcing the role, Roger W Crandall, the chairman and CEO of MassMutual, underscored the key role that Ward will play in the company’s future.

“Her demonstrated investment experience, strong financial acumen, collaborative approach and proven leadership combine to make her uniquely qualified for this vital role,” he said. “I have tremendous confidence in Betsy’s ability to lead our company boldly and successfully ahead as we help people secure their future and protect the ones they love.”

Meanwhile, Crandall also reserved some comments for Rollings, thanking him for his 15 years of contributions.

“Mike has been an exceptional member of our leadership team – during which time he has maintained and built upon our reputation for outstanding financial strength and capital management,” he said.  “We wish Mike much success in his next endeavor.”
