Donation places focus on healthier communities

A healthier environment with clean air and water and safe food benefits everyone, and one insurer is donating more than half a million dollars to make that happen.

A healthier environment with clean air and water and safe food benefits everyone, and one insurer is donating more than half a million dollars to make that happen.

Great-West Life recently contributed $600,000 to help Pollution Probe develop and implement its new Healthy Communities Campaign.

“Public health and environmental stewardship are merging into a single focus,” said Paul Mahon, president and chief executive officer of Great-West Life. “Our support for this initiative is a natural fit with our business activities and our values, and an important new way our organization and staff can engage to build healthy communities and personal well-being.”

Pollution Probe, a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Canadians through public engagement, policy change and resources, will launch the campaign in October, and will be encouraging businesses, organizations and individuals across Canada to join in.

The campaign focuses on:

                - Ensuring children can breathe clean air, consume safe food and water, and are protected from environmental contaminants;

                - Implementing policies and programs to prevent harmful exposure; and

                - Positioning Canada as a leader in children’s environmental health.

For Great-West Life, the campaign dovetails nicely with their Public Accountability Statement, Commitment to well-being.

“The report tells the story of our long-term commitment to the well-being of customers, staff, the environment and communities,” said Mahon. “While the activities featured focus on 2014, the spirit and the values they reflect are an enduring part of our organization.”
