Quebec insurer emerging as innovation leader

Humania Assurance has launched a new price comparison app for its digital platform

Quebec insurer emerging as innovation leader
In an award-winning year for the company, Quebec-based insurer Humania Assurance added another prize at the recent ADRIQ Gala des Prix Innovation event in Montreal.

Taking home the Innovation PME Award, the firm displayed why it was a worthy winner by launching an update to its ground-breaking HuGo digital platform this week. The new app allows advisors the chance to make price comparisons on insurance quotes.

The HuGO platform, which reduces the underwriting process to a few minutes for most policies, is now being used by more than 1,300 advisors across Canada.

The success of the platform saw Humania receive the PME Award at the Gala des Octas 2017 in Montréal and the Digital Transformation Award at the Digital Transformation and Awards Ceremony in Toronto earlier this year.
Now it has added a third award with its prize at the ADRIQ Gala, in a category that it is building a reputation for.

"This demonstrates that our HuGO platform goes beyond the traditional boundaries of technological innovation. HuGO is a major success across Canada. We are now recognized for turning innovation into progress. It is the ambition of Humania Assurance to make insurance more accessible everywhere and for all," said president and CEO of Humania Assurance Stéphane Rochon.

Alongside fintech company Survitech, Humania Assurance developed HuGo as the first digital platform in Canada to use predictive analytics to make a final decision rather than simply analyze risk.

The company invested $4 million and spent 22 months to develop and deliver HuGO, and this new price comparison app will build on its capabilities further.

Vice-president, Sales & Marketing at Humania, Kim Oliphant outlines what this will mean for advisors.

"The advisor records a birth date, clicks on man or woman and selects a status: smoker or non-smoker. Then, they simply choose the amount and the duration. In seconds, the advisor will be able to create a quote from six choices of term life insurance, and compare it with our competitors.”
